Johan Klassen

hello Paul :)
I hope that you are in good health and doing well

Paul Squires

Hi Johan, thanks for the well wishes!

This is the first time that I've told any of my programmer friends, but I had a pulmonary embolism last month, basically blood clots in the lung. Weird, because I am a relatively healthy person and don't drink or smoke. Most likely it was due to inactivity and clot travelled from leg to heart and then lung. I went unconscious and was rushed to the hospital. Scary stuff. I was in hospital for a week and they are continuing to do some tests now that I have been on blood thinners for the past month. My passion for programming waned during the pandemic so once this health issue is behind me then I hope that the programming passion kicks back into high gear again. We'll see.  :-)

good to hear from you Paul, I wish you a quick recovery :)

Wow, scary indeed. I hope you're mending now and keep it up.

Hi All

That is scary stuff Paul.
I was hospitalised just one week before you with Covid.
Me being "not so fit and healthy" was a great concern, but i dodged a big bullet there. No Embolism and finally no heart or lung damage.
But there are people of all shapes and sizes. Fit ones, fat ones, Healthy or sick.
I take it you also got those annoying injections around your navel against the blood clots??? I was as purple as Barney when i got out.
good to see us talking again, its a terrible thing stopping here daily and not seeing anything.

I haven't seen Josè around either. Hope he is well too and everyone that stops here daily.

I also wish you a quick recovery, Paul. Although I smoke, I always have followed a healthy diet and I have been fully vaccinated with zero side effects.

Paul Squires

Thanks gentlemen, appreciate the support. @Peter, yes I was given those injections twice a day for a few days before they switched me to pills. And, eys, I had wicked bruising as well!!! LOL. I am still on the blood clot pills and probably will be for another few months. @Jose, I got the vaccine the very second it was available to me. Got both shots. I asked the doctors would the clots have been a side effect and they assured me it wasn't (I had both shots of pfizer vaccine).

Hi Paul, Really glad you're getting over it. I expect the cause of it was trying to get into learning c#. And, you can take the programmer out of programming, but you can't take the programming out of the programmer. Been there, got the tee shirt. Been messing with computers before transistors were around, almost.

Petrus Vorster

Well, its great hearing from everyone again.

Paul, i don't know if you also need to go for that follow-up Heart sonar and Lung tests where they check your progress about a month later. Just got my clean bill of health.

I hope yours is perfect, we have missed you a great deal.

Everyone, take good care of yourself. Trust me, in hospital with this thing, you get a new appreciation for what you have.

Hi Paul, so glad you're going to be okay! Nasty business, that.
My daily visits here have slowed to a few times a week but that's only because of a crazy real estate market here.

Hello Paul, I also wish you a quick recovery. We miss you.

Paul, you are awfully quiet.

How is the health matter progressing mate?
Hope you find a new zest for programming real soon.
Hope you are fit and healthy by now with no remaining issues!

Thanks Peter, I'm feeling much better these days. I have been off work from my day job and that has helped reduce my stress immensely. I have a specialist appointment in a couple of weeks and that should answer some of my remaining health concerns. You're correct that I haven't been doing much programming. Actually, the reason is kind of two fold... my health scare, of course, and also because I now spend about 90% of my time in Linux (Kubuntu) rather than Windows. I still have much work to do on WinFBE especially after reading the recent wish list posts. :-)
